Mobile World Congress 2025 | The most striking news

Barcelona is once again hosting one of the most important technological meetings in the world: the Mobile World Congress. From March 3 to 6, the city of Barcelona will witness the launch of new products and technologies that will reach the market in the coming months.

With over 100,000 attendees, more than 2,400 exhibitors, and 1,100 speakers, leading brands such as Cisco, Telefónica, Meta, Noki, and Xiaomi will be present to share their latest products and services.

Despite its name, the meeting is turning into an exhibition moment for all kinds of technologies and not only cell phones, where robots, “flying” cars, AI developments, or the latest in displays have been seen. If you have not been able to attend, here is all the news!

Mobile World Congress 2025 | Recap

This event is one of the most influential in the world and is a key venue to discuss a connected future that is estimated to generate close to $11 trillion by 2030, with a focus on key issues such as the role of 5G in accelerating digital transformation and the growing convergence between AI, advanced connectivity and sustainability.

In the Keynote, Mats Granryd, CEO of the GSMA, highlighted the importance for the industry to complete the transition to 5G Standalone, drive new revenue models, and fully leverage the potential of artificial intelligence and the Open Gateway initiative’s open APIs as key drivers to ensure industry growth.

Granryd also stressed the urgency of securing access to radio spectrum in the future, as well as the challenges and opportunities posed by closing the global mobile internet usage gap. Currently, 3.1 billion people are covered by mobile networks but do not use mobile internet, and closing this gap could unlock an estimated $3.5 trillion economic opportunity.

Huawei News

Once again this year, the Shenzhen-based company, once again, has the largest stand at the fair, where it is not only exhibiting products but has also built an ephemeral city for these four days of the congress.

They have held the Huawei Cloud Summit, where they have presented their strategy, new products, and cloud-based solutions to accelerate the digital transformation of new sectors through AI. Jacqueline Shi, president of global marketing and sales service of Huawei Cloud, stressed that artificial intelligence is at the heart of the company’s core strategy and that their focus is on moving from Cloud Native to AI Native to drive innovation in the industry.

They also unveiled the HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate Design cell phone, the world’s first triple-screen foldable phone, as well as its HUAWEI FreeArc Open-Ear headset. This device stands out for its hook, which is meticulously designed to fit the ear in a natural way, ensuring its use throughout the day without generating the discomfort that can cause a conventional headset.

Samsung and AI assistants

Samsung wanted to offer an AI assistant through advanced innovation, starting with the Galaxy S25 series to the new Galaxy A series to its first XR device, Project Moohan.

Visitors can see and experience how the Galaxy S25 acts as an AI companion that helps perform tasks more seamlessly and how the Galaxy S25’s camera technology introduces new ways to create.

Also, how these new AI-based capabilities enable users to manage the home securely and conveniently through cross-device connectivity. Protected by Knox Matrix security, the Home AI scenarios show how to enjoy a smarter way of life with an easy setup and control of devices enabled by the SmartThings platform.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra

Xiaomi surprises again with its new bet on innovation: the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It is inspired by the classic look of cameras and does so for a good reason: its capacity with Leica Summilux optical lens is simply incredible.

It is a mobile phone endowed with the highest manufacturing quality and boasts exceptional power. Its modular optical system allows you to connect professional optics to the phone and enjoy professional lenses in a phone

Nokia

Another industry giant has presented its initiatives on radio access networks (RANs) with artificial intelligence.

The company has presented key advances in AI-RAN architecture and its impact on the future of telecommunications infrastructure and services. To accelerate this development, Nokia has opened an AI-RAN center in Dallas, USA, where its partners will be able to test and optimize solutions in real network conditions. It is also collaborating with KDDI, SoftBank, T-Mobile US, and NVIDIA to explore new business models and improve network efficiency.

Union of the major European telecommunications companies

The top executives of Telefónica, Marc Murtra; of the British Vodafone, Margherita della Valle; of the French Orange, Christel Heydemann; and of the German Deutsche Telekom, Tim Höttges, have joined their voices in a public debate at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona to demand legal reforms to boost the telecommunications business and give a boost to European technological development.

These large companies are joining forces to demand urgent regulatory changes from the EU to put an end to the fragmentation of the continental sector, to create a truly single European market, and to reduce bureaucracy, with the aim of halting the loss of competitiveness compared to their rivals in the United States or China and to be able to launch a wave of investment in new cutting-edge technologies.

Assistance robots

Eurecat has presented Jana, the social care robot capable of recognizing faces and analyzing the environment to establish a natural connection with people, with the aim of facilitating communication in clinical environments.

The design, implementation, and first tests of the robot have been carried out in collaboration with the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona, where its capacity to facilitate interaction between patients, families, and medical staff has been demonstrated.

The Jana robot “is a clear example of how social robotics and artificial intelligence can transform the way people interact with technology, humanizing innovation and bringing it closer to society,” says Daniel Serrano, director of the Robotics and Automation Unit at Eurecat.

Oppo and Serie Reno 13

Oppo has just unveiled, for the first time in Europe, its Reno 13 series, which stands out with a rugged design, water and dust resistance, and numerous AI tools.

Inspired by the wings of butterflies, it features AI Livephoto, AI Editor, and advanced underwater photography.

Google and human-centered AI

The senior director of Engineering, AI Research Strategy at Google, Pilar Manchón, has claimed a “human-centered” artificial intelligence and has called not to fear it but to “embrace it” to “change the world”.

Manchón emphasized the objective of bringing together professionals from the technology sector to address issues such as the evolution of artificial intelligence, software development and quantum computing.

Healthcare and technology

The healthcare sector continues to be one of the protagonists of 4YFN, the hall dedicated to entrepreneurship within the MWC. The entire central part of the lower floor of this pavilion is occupied by the stands of Biocat, Barcelona Health Hub, CataloniaBio & HealthTeach, and, nearby, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).

On display are new advances in synthetic neurons, such as those presented by ISDIN, devices to diagnose diseases (such as The Smart Lollipop lollipop) and improve medical treatment (such as the Heecap patch to keep respiratory muscles trained in patients on mechanical ventilation) or solutions for professionals (Tailor Surgery) and to better coexist with diseases such as Parkinson’s (Life Neurotech).

Data computing and sustainability

Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and CaixaBank are exploring the potential of data computing and artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve more sustainable consumption through an “educational and interactive” experience that allows users to calculate their personal carbon footprint and learn what changes they can implement to lead a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The tool evaluates in real time, through a control panel, aspects of the participants’ daily life such as their consumption at home, mobility, recycling, or the type of diet they follow. Once these aspects have been analyzed through the lens of sustainability, the experience offers users personalized recommendations to reduce their carbon footprint based on sustainable technologies and habits.

Realme and 14 Pro Serie

The company has announced that its 3-year strategic plan is to double its global user base and aims to exceed 10 million annual sales in Europe.

Its biggest bet to achieve this is the Realme 14 Pro Series, the world’s first phone with cold-sensitive color change, its triple flash system, and a 6000 mAH battery.

Its biggest and most innovative bet on interchangeable lenses aims to consolidate its position in the mid-high end market.

So much for the MWC 2025 news so far. Do not miss the updates that we will be doing throughout the celebration of the Congress.
